Signs of a Troubled Marriage

It is human nature to overlook the problems we are having at home.  We want to believe that everything will be okay, and we don’t want others to gain a negative perception of our family.  Even when these issues are right under our nose, we still continue to look the other way.  But marriage problems will only get worse if they are not identified and dealt with.  Here a some signs of a troubled marriage that require immediate help to keep them from spiraling out of control.

Communication
Because you share all of your resources with your spouse it is impossible to have a successful relationship without good communication.  This involves asking for their feedback on decisions you make as well as sharing your emotions and responses to their actions.  Too many couples keep their feelings bottled up until they reach the breaking point.  This can lead to large scale arguments over the most trivial of matters.  All of this can be prevented by staying in constant communication with your partner.  Ask them what there needs are and be sure to share your perspective on ways to improve your family life.

Dishonesty
Trust is the absolute most essential part of a successful relationship, and without trust everything else will eventually collapse.  You can violate the trust in a marriage by doing things like spending money inappropriately, not being reliable, and of course cheating on your spouse.  Since it can take a significant amount of time to build up these levels of faith and confidence, you need to focus on preserving them.  Admit when you made a mistake and talk about why it happened.  While there is no guarantee that your partner won’t be mad, you will maintain your trust levels by being open about the problem.

Boredom
Nothing kills a marriage like a lack of passion and excitement.  The monotony of work and everyday life can sometimes prevent us from remembering to take care of the romantic parts of our life.  Making sure there is plenty of adventure in your marriage is an important part of keeping things fresh and fun.  When people become bored they begin to think that there is something better out there for them.  This type of thinking can also lead to depression and withdrawal.  But all these negative affects can be prevented by simply mixing up your routine.  Schedule surprise dates or take a spontaneous vacation.  Do whatever you can to prevent long-term boredom from setting in.

Marriage troubles are fairly common, but unfortunately not everyone takes a proactive approach to solving them.  It is easy to dismiss the issues as a passing argument and try to ignore it.  The problem with this strategy is that it allows the troubles to grow worse, making them harder to deal with.  Take a minute to self-evaluate your marriage.  Do you recognize any of the symptoms listed in this article?  If so, then it may be time to take a more serious approach to resolving them.
